What To Do If You’ve Got Water In Your Basement

Friday, April 24th

What to do if you have water coming into your basement:

If you’ve lost the battle against water getting into your basement it’s important that you act fast to try and mitigate the damage.

The best line of defence is always a sump pump, if you have one and it failed, getting that working again will help to get rid of the water in your basement.  If you don’t have one it’s important to get one installed to insure that this doesn’t happen again.

If the water level in your basement gets high enough, dangerous situations can be created.  If the water level reaches the burner on either your furnace or hot water heater, shut off the power immediately.

No matter how much water you have in your basement it’s important to get rid of it as soon as possible to avoid further damage or mould.  A wet/dry shop vac is very useful in these situations, if the water level is too high for you to do it by yourself, call in the professionals for help, and of course, if there is significant damage a call to your insurance company to see what coverage you have should be made.
